I’m Grace Turner, 29, and I went to Jaco Beach at a moment when I really needed to get out of my own head. I wanted a place that felt social and alive but still warm and safe enough for a solo traveler. Jaco ended up being that place and more. I stayed in a Contemporary Airbnb Apartment near Jaco Beach that felt like my own little retreat a block away from the action.

Four experiences shaped the trip: Took a Surfing Lesson at the Jaco Surf School, a colorful Street Art and Graffiti Walking Tour, dinner and cocktails at Mono Verde Restaurant, and a late, unforgettable night at Mynt Bar and Lounge in Jaco. Surfing made me feel strong and capable again, the art tour showed me a creative side of town I didn’t expect, and Mynt gave me a polished, lounge-style night out that felt like it could have been in a big city—except with warm ocean air just outside.

My days took on a gentle rhythm. I started each morning walking along Jaco Beach, watching surfers, families, and locals all share the same shoreline with mountains and rainforest rising behind the town. From there, I’d decide whether the day was more about relaxing in town or exploring. Taxis and Ubers took me to Playa Hermosa, Herradura, and the Los Sueños marina. One day I took a bus down toward Esterillos and Bejuco, just to see more coastline and watch the waves in quieter settings. Transportation always felt safe and straightforward, and people were happy to help if I had questions.

The kindness of the people around me brought my confidence back piece by piece. Surf instructors and other travelers cheered each time I stood up on a wave. My art tour guide talked passionately about how Jaco has become a hub for creativity along the Central Pacific, connecting places like Tarcoles and Quepos. Staff at Mono Verde and other spots remembered my face after one visit and asked how my surf sessions were going every time I came back.

At night, I let myself be more social than I’d been in a long time. I started with beach bars, listening to live bands with my toes in the sand, and moved on to casinos and dance clubs when I felt like it. The night I spent at Mynt stands out—great music, friendly crowd, and a vibe that was fun but never intimidating. Even walking home late felt safe; the streets were well lit, full of people, and there was an easy, welcoming energy everywhere.

By the end of the trip, I felt lighter, braver, and more connected—to myself and to the world around me. Jaco’s mix of beach life, nightlife, art, mountains, rainforest, and genuinely friendly people gave me exactly the reset I needed. I didn’t just visit a beach town; I found a community I’m already excited to come back to.
