I’m Christian Ward, 33, and I came to Jaco Beach for what I called a “weekend warrior” trip—pack as much fun as possible into a short window and go home tired in the best way. Mission accomplished. I stayed in a Modern Jaco Beach Airbnb Apartment close to the ocean and downtown, which gave me maximum flexibility with minimum effort.
Four things turned the trip into a true weekend warrior story: a muddy, wild ATV Jungle Ride, running around the jungle in a Jungle Paintball session, late-night drinks at Rolling Thunder Saloon Bar, and carb-loading at The Pizza Shop Jaco Pizza Restaurant after a night of dancing. The ATV tour took us deep into the hills and rivers behind town, paintball had everyone laughing and covered in paint, and Rolling Thunder plus pizza was the perfect combo to end long, action-filled days.
Even though I was there for a short time, I still got a wide view of Jaco and its surroundings. I hit Jaco Beach every morning, either to cool off in the water or just to walk and wake up with the sunrise. I used taxis and Ubers to bounce to Playa Hermosa, Herradura, and the Los Sueños marina, catching glimpses of how the mountains, rainforest, and coastline all blend together here. Every ride felt safe and easy, which was important since I was squeezing so much into every day.
The local energy was exactly what I needed. The ATV and paintball guides were hilarious and encouraging, making sure everyone had a good time whether they were experienced or trying things for the first time. Bartenders at Rolling Thunder and other bars I stopped into were quick to give recommendations and even circle their favorite late-night food spots on a map for me.
When the sun went down, Jaco showed me why it’s such a popular beach town. Dance clubs, casinos, beach bars, and casual hangouts all lit up at once. I bounced between a couple of spots each night, met travelers from all over the world, and got that “small world” feeling when I ran into the same people again the next night. Even heading back to my Airbnb in the early hours felt comfortable and safe, with music still in the air and plenty of people walking home, too.
In just a few days, Jaco Beach gave me more memories than some trips I’ve taken that lasted weeks. The combination of jungle adventures, beach time, nightlife, friendly locals, and easy access to other parts of Puntarenas makes it ideal for a high-impact, short stay. I’m already talking with friends about coming back for a longer, louder version of the same trip.
