We’re Joshua Reed (31) and Emily Cox (29). We thought we were booking a simple long weekend in Jaco Beach and ended up staying longer because we didn’t want to leave. Our base was a cozy Central Jaco Airbnb Vacation Rental that sat just far enough off the main strip to be quiet at night but close enough that we could walk to everything.

Our four big highlights were Surfing on Jaco Beach, a thrilling morning at Vista Los Suenos Adventure Park, a sushi feast at Tsunami Sushi Restaurant, and a smooth, stylish night out at Mynt Lounge Jaco. Surfing together was hilarious and humbling, ziplining in the rainforest gave us those big cinematic views, and Mynt gave us that classy lounge feel with hookah and cocktails to cap one of our favorite nights.

We used Jaco as our launching pad for little side trips. One day we headed down to Playa Hermosa to watch experienced surfers; another day we rode up to Herradura and the Los Sueños marina to check out boats and rainforest hills. We took the bus farther along the coast toward Esterillos and Bejuco to wander wide, quieter beaches, and we talked seriously about planning a longer trip to Quepos and Manuel Antonio next time. Taxis, Ubers, and buses were all easy to use and always felt safe.

Everybody we met in Jaco seemed happy we were there. A barista in town asked about our plans every morning and gave us suggestions, including a waterfall stop up toward Bijagual. A taxi driver pointed out his favorite local soda and insisted we try a proper casado one afternoon. Little interactions like that made the whole trip feel more personal.

At night, we leaned into the fun side of Jaco—beach bars with live music, casinos with just enough noise and color to keep things exciting, and dance clubs where everyone seemed to be in a good mood. The night we did a circuit of a casino, a beachfront bar, and then Mynt Lounge ended up being one of our favorites. Walking back to our apartment at the end of long nights felt totally safe; there were always other people around and the vibe stayed relaxed.

That “long weekend” turned into a full-on adventure we’re still talking about. Jaco gave us sun, surf, nightlife, and easy access to surrounding spots like Herradura, Hermosa, and Tarcoles. Next time, we’re blocking out a lot more than a weekend on the calendar.
